Collège Saint-Charles

A student-focused school open to knowledge

MISSION STATEMENT AND SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY

Mission:
Our mission is to provide students with a high-quality education while developing the attributes of kindness, respect, and responsibility towards others and the environment.

Philosophy:
Collège et Lycée Saint-Charles, follows the humanist and Christian values of caring for others and the environment, respecting cultures and individuals, and approaching the world with openness and positivity. Thus, the school aims to develop the same values in students and to support students in becoming responsible, global citizens who work to make the world a better place.

Founded in 1897, the Collège & Lycée Saint-Charles is located in outstanding settings in Ajoie, in the Swiss Jura Canton. The school, which welcomes young people aged between 10 and 20, stands on the edge of the Allaine, in a tree-lined garden at the foot of the magnificent Château de Porrentruy. Nicknamed the Athens of the Jura, this little town with nearly 7,000 inhabitants is known for its long tradition of education, its openness to the wider world and its vocation of stimulating the thirst for knowledge.

The campus consists of the main building (the former residence of the canons), a school building, a beautiful chapel and the Léon Burrus sports complex. The classrooms, bathed in natural light and enjoying a clear view over the surrounding nature, are an invitation to share knowledge with a critical and curious outlook. During their studies, the 250 students benefit from high-quality teaching, offering them the necessary tools to pursue and forge their pathways in a complex and demanding world.

Founded in 1897, the Collège & Lycée Saint-Charles is a private school recognised by the canton of Jura. It distinguishes itself through a value system inspired by humanism. Here, knowledge and the individual are placed at the centre. Of Christian origin, today Saint-Charles is still supported by the Basel diocese.

Teachers and students form a coherent whole. Under the banner of Supporting Growth, Saint-Charles does everything possible to make future young adults into citizens of the world. Saint-Charles emphasizes curiosity and a sense of tolerance and freedom, and constantly seeks a balance between tradition and the avant-garde.
